By the odds of where I was, I would say this is a red-tail, but I am not sure.

Trying out the new 5D3 in the top photo, and the 1DIV in the bottom. 100-400 versus 400 5.6.

Nice pair of Red-shouldered Hawk shots. Both are great looking but the 400 prime looks a bit crisper, it's very close though. I'd be happy with either one.

Thanks for the ID! I don't think I have ever seen a Red-shouldered before. I agree the second shot is sharper, but it was hardly a fair comparison. I was laying on my side in my van shooting up through the sunroof, so I doubt I was all that steady. I have a 500mm coming from Lensrentals next weekend, and am going to go back to the reserves and really try to compare the two cameras thoroughly.

You're welcome. I've enjoyed my Mark IV and 500L combination. Are you renting the Canon 500L(f4) version 1?

Beautiful Hawk, well shot too! In the shade as well. Their backside is beautiful

Yes, I am renting the v1, because I am looking to purchase one on the rare occasion they pop up for sale. The v2 is simply unaffordable to me.

Great lens, you're going to enjoy it. It may be necessary to micro adjust the lens with your camera bodies but maybe you'll get a good match. If you don't, MA can make a significant difference. Please post samples after you do some testing.
