I have a question for those who either have a dslr and mirror less body or had a dslr and sold it for a mirrorless body.

I currently have a 5dmkiii, 50l, 17-40 and 100-400. With having 3 kids I don't have anytime to shoot much anymore and was thinking about downsizing even more. I sold most of my expensive equipment and since I mainly use the 50l for portraits and for family occasions I was thinking of selling everything else and going maybe fuji xpro1 or similar.

Since I am not using the 5dmkiii to its full potential I am not thinking I will be missing much besides high ISO and then again I don't really need to shoot past 3200 often

What do recommend and why? Also, I am still learning about the different mirrorless bodies so which ones are the most popular?

The new Sony mirror-less cams look very good on paper.

Canon has a patent for a pellicole patent with variable reflectance/transmittance. If you look at the drawing and read the words, it does seem that Canon are talking about a mirror that can change its reflectiveness electronically. When looking through the OVF, the mirror reflects most of the light into the prism, and when you press the shutter, the mirror goes almost clear meaning that most of the light WILL go to the sensor.

It's basically electronic mirror lifting but instead of the mirror going up and down, it just goes clear when required. A bit like the electronic LCD glass, but the glass becomes either clear or reflective depending on the position of the shutter.

Another big advantage of the non-flipping "mirror" design is the ultra-low shutter lag - with the EOS RT you just have to touch the shutter, and it has taken a picture before you realize what's been going on.

Lets see what happens. I think 2014 will be a big year for Canon and expect quite a few new products and technology, especially considering its Photokina year which il certainly be attending and doing some mini-review in situ of some of the products.

I'd go Fuji, but I'd wait for the newer models to come out. The improvements will be vast. If you find you are not using your gear, get rid of it and get something more in line with what you need.

that is kinda what i was thinking, why have a ton of money wrapped up gear that i'm not getting to use. I figured once i get more free time buy something that fits my needs at that time. This way the wife could use it and not feel overwhelmed too.

So from the reading I have been doing it looks like the fuji x line seems to be the better of the choices out there besides going to something like the g16 for a fixed lens.

if you're thinking fixed and want to dabble in the Fuji line, I recommend the x100 to start.

I'd look into the Sony A7 over the Fuji.

Keep the best, sell the rest.

In your situation the best thing to do would be to keep the prettiest/best behaved child and sell the other two. That will free up more time for photography and provide more money to buy kit. Kids are great so you shouldn't sell them all - keeping one to carry your kit is always a good move.

wait for the new X-Pro2 to drop or just keep using your 5D Mark III with a 40mm pancake.

P&s would be good for the wife and probably will get her a g15 or g16, but I want a little more flexibility. Manual, large aperture lenses. What I would like to get away from is the larger foot print of a dslr at least for now. That was one reason I was looking at the fuji x-e2 with kit lens. Price point is great, smaller camera, and I think it would be good for what I am going to use it for. Child portraits and family events. I was just seeing if anyone else made a similar switch and has any recommendations or advice.

I have a 1Ds Mark II and a Rebel T3, and I mostly shoot as a hobby with an occasional wedding or portrait session for friends. I recently added the EOS M with the idea that I would take it as a travel camera on an overseas trip I have planned for this Thanksgiving.

At this point I'd still want my full set of equipment for those important gigs, but I am so in love with the size and light weight of the M that I have hardly touched my other gear since it arrived.

While the M has its disadvantages (mainly pertaining to speed), I feel like the trade-offs are worth it for personal day-to-day use. You still get the full manual controls of a DSLR but it doesn't get tiresome to carry and doesn't get in the way of enjoying an outing.

Would I consider scaling back and just having the mirrorless in the future? Yes, if I could get a couple more lenses like an 85mm prime and a longer zoom that's compact and made for the M. Of course there are always adapters but IMHO it defeats the purpose of a compact camera if you have to use it with full size lenses.
