Dear all,

The news and customer letters from X-Rite can be found at http://www.xrite.com/company_announce.aspx (external link)

Clearly this is likely to mean some kind of consolidation of products - for which the details are not yet clear. I sense, from the customer letter (which I received by email, as a registered user of Monaco OPTIX XR Pro), that they're aware that customers will be scared of being left with orphaned products, and are trying to act accordingly.

Much of the calibration and profiling software already works with several manufacturer's hardware - so I expect that, in the future, software will converge, having compatibility with whatever hardware you have. This is just a guess on my part, though.

Could be good, could be realy bad.
The two dominant industry leaders of profile creation software, Monaco Profiler and GMB ProfileMaker will no longer be in competition.
Will the consolidation of brain-power help with advancements in color management science, or will the lack of competition hold things back?

We will see.....

I would wager towards the plus side on this one,. The El~Cheapo "Spyder" remains dominant in the low cost market to keep Monaco/Greteg honest... so they can't just run off and crank prices through the roof with a monopoly...

However at the higher end.. is there any competition left?

I've been using Color Eyes Display for over 3 years and would recomend them to anyone. They make great software for using Monoco hardware. They also have camera and printer profile software as well.
They're priced between Monoco and Gretag.
