If you are selling gear and you have not had any bites here, I'd definitely recommend Amazon.

I've sold a good amount of stuff (books, camera gear, other electronics, etc.) on Amazon. Fees are pretty minimal and it's a definitely a place that creates a lot of traffic.

I had my 50mm 1.8 II listed for $85 + $4.99 shipping (Amazon has standard shipping prices depending on the product).

Keep in mind I listed this last night. Sold about an hour ago. I get just under $82 in return.

With current eBay/PayPal fees, Amazon is a good 'last resort.'

Lastly, if you are selling it for the lowest price in the MarketPlace, you're guaranteed to be the first hit when people are searching.

What do other people think about selling on Amazon over eBay?

I've had the best luck selling on Amazon as well. Over the last few months I've sold 5 cameras, 2 lenses, and 2 bags there. I normally price my items just under the lowest price on Marketplace. Everything has sold within a day or two. Items seem to go for a slightly higher price on Amazon than they do here on the forum. So the higher price helps offset some of Amazon's selling fees.

My experience exactly. I do typically have my items listed here and Amazon (immediately removed after one sells).

I have typically made more selling on Amazon than on here.

It's dependent on the product.

For example, camera and photo, they take 8% - books, 15%.

Here's the link to their fees (http://www.amazon.com …splay.html?nodeId=1161240 (external link))

I believe when using eBay, you have to deal with eBay fees and PayPal fees.

Love Amazon, sold a few thousand dollars worth of stuff on there, way less hassle in my opinion compared to eBay/PayPal.

My first choice is always Craigslist though, just making sure you sell/buy smart to take the risk out of it.

I prefer amazon over ebay. They don't hit you with double fees like ebay and then PayPal. Returns are easy to deal with. If you describe your item well and price it towards the low end of the range, it sells quickly.

I didn't know you could sell on Amazon. I've sold my stuff here, FM and on Craiglist. If price right and item in good condition, it will sell. Good to know for the future.

Yes, Craigslist is still my first choice. Like you said, just have to be smart/safe about it.

+1 -- it seems a lot of people don't know too much about selling on Amazon which is why I started this thread.

One of my favorite things is if price competitively, you're almsot guaranteed to be listed near the top (if not the top price).

I've looked at Amazon in the past, since I have to sell my 60mm macro lens, looked for like new/mint they require the original box and other such things I never keep. The lens itself is like new, only used for macro, not a lot of images moved through it. Just because I don't have a box and might not find the "instructions" that come with the lens does not make me want to list it as a lower condition though, as it's in tip top condition. Have to look again, I'd love to just deal with Amazon instead of setting up a seller's account on e-bay and fiddling with them and paypal.

How is shipping done, if they have standard fees? Packaging and sending stuff costs money, do their fees cover those cost?

I'm referring to selling in the Amazon MarketPlace and not directly to Amazon.

However, when selling in the MarketPlace, you have condition, description and can actually add your own photos now (big help when selling).

Shipping is determined by Amazon (probably roughly their shipping costs when someone order such item (minus supplies box and packaging). I typically have boxes and packaging from previous things I have ordered.

The added shipping costs is typically just enough to cover. Selling the 50mm 1.8, $4.99 was added for shipping; it cost me $3.20.

When I sold my 10-20mm, I was given $6.99 for shipping, and it costs me just over $7.

Thanks for the info. I do have a few things that I've been trying to sell, but am so tired of Ebay/PP fees being so high.

About Amazon:
How do they pay? Check? Amazon Account?
Can they pay to PP?
Can we use USPS Priority shipping or do we have to ship with whoever Amazon sets us up with?
When the item sells how do we get the buyers info to ship?

You have an Amazon Seller account that connects to your bank account.

Whatever payments Amazon can take are the payments used (all major cards including their store card, but no PayPal)

You don't have to use their shipping but they primarily do use USPS Priority and does offer a slight discount over using USPS.com.

Since it's through Amazon, the buyer's shipping address is already given.

Do you print shipping labels through Amazon to get the discount?

How soon do you receive payment?

Do you know how much you'd profit before you list?

Yes. You can buy your labels using Amazon.

I believe it's every 14 days they push payment through.

And yes, they tell you how much net you make before submitting so you can always go back and change it before submitting.
