Both of those are superb!! ^^

Mine seems MUCH better at MFA -3 now. It seems sharp at 1.2 most of the time (still getting misses but no where near as much and I know they will be user error).

Thank you. I like this lens for its slight dreaminess (or the slight lack of razor sharpness) wide open. 'Still plenty sharp for portraits -- in fact compared to almost any portrait painted by the grand masters, it's considerably sharper.

Well an odd thing happened. i thought I had dialled my lens in at -3 MFA using dottune method but it was still hit and miss and got worse as the distance to target increased. I got to the point today where I thought I was going to have to sell the lens as I just couldnt get it to perform for me. I decided to try dottune again as a last resort under more controlled conditions (rushed it a bit the first time) and now its saying +11 MFA and seems so far to be much much better at all distances.

It dark now but will give it a full workout tomorrow and see how it goes but hopefully thats it dialled in now

Don't forget about the focus shift. While I don;t find a noticeable issue in my copy it if present in all lenses to a degree. When shooting at f1.2 with MFA its tack sharp.
When shooting at f2.0 or even f1.8 it can be just off.

I spend 3 days and a long write-up a few months ago MFA to all of my lenses.
I ended up with +5 on my 24L, 40 stem, and 100L. I don't think the same number was a coincidence either.
I think my 6D was manufactured within spec of -5. My lenses are all newer date codes.
I think my lenses are spot on focus at +0 and my 6D body if off by -5

My 50L however resulted in +0 MFA clearly being superior to all others.
I think my 50L is -5 spec and my 6D body is -5 spec. A perfect fit for each other.
All testing was done on a tripod just beyond each of their minumum focusing distances.

OP: Those result for suggested MFA see very contradictory to one another.
If you tested three times and the results were like +3 +5 and +3 then choose one.
But if they are -3 and +11 I wouldn't trust their reliability.

Yup, mine is off at F1.6. All the rest is tack sharp, even at F1.2.

I'm testing at 1.2 to avoid the shift issue. With regards to the results I already said I rushed the dottune when I got -3 and the target I used wasn't ideal. I'm hoping now this +11 result is now where it needs to be. Ill test today.

For info my 35IS, 85 1.8 and 135L are all zero MFA

Well ive went from around 40% hit rate to 95% hit rate now so hopefully im good to go. Im surprised I managed to get any shots considering how wrong my MFA setting was !
