A few things:
- embrace the F1.2 blur / bokeh it is very unique
- MFA your lens and camera together to try and nail critical focus exactly
- F1.2 is never going to be 'tack' sharp it just doesn't quite get there compared to F1.4 where you will see it
- i think this lens, F1.4 to F2 is incredible for B&W street photography

enjoy

I second this advice. Also, I assume you've read up on the "notorious" focus shift. I've never considered it a problem in my own experience, but you might want to play around with various scenarios until you're comfortable with it.

2nd picture is fantastic

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Thanks.

All I was after was taking a photo of my rain-soaked windshield as I sat in back-numbing traffic as I tried to crawl home after work.

These are amazing! They look more like illustrations than photographs. Would you mind sharing your setup and PP?

If you haven't already, you should post these in the People or Kids and Family forums to get more exposure. Those are "Best Of" material for sure.

These aren't my photos, but as a former 50L owner, in my experience, what you are seeing is the unique way the 50L renders.

Thank you! the PP was pretty straight forward, a bit of exposure and color adjustments, some more contrast and sharpness. its pretty close to SOOC.

the set up was a paper backdrop, a home depot cheap white molding base board, a custom removable wood floor.

for lighting, i used three cheap-o Neweer studio strobes. (300WS) that were on 1/16th power. two has soft boxes at 10 and 2 o'clock compared to the subject. and one at 5 to give me some background fill.
