What functionality do you need in the trigger? If you just need a manual trigger, Phottix Strato II Multi is a great reliable choice. You can get a pair for around $100. If you need more control (E-TTL, remote zoom, HSS, SCS) then I recommend the Phottix Odin. Reliable and also compatible with the Strato II receivers for mixed E-TTL/manual use. If that's over the budget you can get the cheaper YN-622 which supposedly is a reliable option but you said you don't want YongNuo.

Not having TTL control is not a big thing, I can change my settings manually. I just want dependability with I press the shutter.

OP, please let us know what triggers and the specific problems you are having. I have had my Yongnuo 622 triggers for a few months and have had no issues. I want to make sure what the type of issue you are having so I can either replicate or try to diagnose the issue.
I don't represent Yongnuo, but I am a recovering IT guy and it might be a simple issue you can solve without having to replace your current triggers.

I see. The YN622 system should be much better in terms of reliability and functionality. I would start there and look into Phottix as a more refined alternative (with a price difference reflecting that).

They will fire the flash every 3rd or 4th time. Brand new enloops batteries int them. Last shoot I could not get neither one to fire. I replaced the batteries in both the receiver and the transmitter but they would not fire. Later that night I tried them again and didn't work at first but after 20 minutes or so messing with them they fired 2 times and stopped again. Been in my bag every since.

Sorry for the redundant question yesterday. I must have not refreshed my page before I sent off my query. I would second the folks who mention the Yongnuo 622. I can personally vouch for the fact that they have been reliable when I use them. They just keep working.

Yn 600/602s are very reliable, just as reliable as my 622s.

I've used them profesionaly for several years, and have never had a problem.

Do not use rechargeable batteries in them, especially non recharged brand new eneloops. Use duracell type batteries as they run at higher (1.5v vs 1.2v) voltage. This is widely known.

Or you may have duff units.

Do not necessarily think that paying more will bring reliability. You would have the same problems, if not worse, with rechargeables in 622s.

Trailboy may be onto something. I only use regular batteries in my triggers. If they used more juice to run them like a flash, I might try rechargables, but I am still on my first set of batteries in the triggers. I have heard several people say they are good for thousands of shots before needing to be changed.

So you are saying don't use any type of rechargeable batteries in the Yongueo equipment?

Triggers, no. Don't.

Especially not the 622s, which are widely known to have problems with lower voltage rechargeable triggering their 'battery low' warning and auto shutdown / unexpected occurrences.

In the flashes, fill your boots with whatever batteries you like. Eneloops are excellent.

Get a brand new set of duracells, try them out, and then come back and let us know if this solved your problem. As I say, you might have a duff unit, but I have, ummmm, 10 receivers and 6 transmitters for the 602s and have never had a problem from them.

Edit - just remembered, the 602 transmitter use those strange batteries, and I don't think you can get those rechargeable, can you?

What kind of battery life does one get using regular alkaline batteries?

A long time, more than enough to justify not using rechargeable anyway.

With almost daily usage, I probably get at least 6 months use.
