An "Internvalometer" can work in various ways, either with a special attachment to your camera, special software installed in your camera, or having your camera hooked up to a computer that controls it.

Magic lantern can do this, but I don't know if it can go up to such a long time.

Edit: Just looked on my 60D. It is limited to 1 per 8 hours. But you could just discard 2 out of 3 and get 1 every 24 hours.

I would be ok with setting up a computer and tethering it to a rebel or something.. I use my 5d and 7d too often to use them.
Does canon software do this ?

If it's just to tell the weather I would get a web cam and hook it up to the computer. Smaller, no batteries, and no storage to worry about.

That's not going to be very accurate.

I am wanting to see what it looked like in the years past.

Last year at this time we had 3 feet of snow, this year nothing.. I would like to simply compare it with a log of pictures.

So I could go back ans see on oct 1 or whatever date what it looked like on that date .

Or maybe do a time lapse with a years worth of pics..??

Something like the amount of snow on the ground would work, but sunshine vs. rain depends on the time that you shoot on a particular day.

Check out the software used on wunderground.com for their weather cams. It updates with a still shot every few minutes. You can set the time of day it takes the thumbnail shot. Has a nice calendar interface so you can go back, look at the weather, even watch a timelapse of any day.

Good luck!

How about using an existing cam? What I mean is that many cities have cameras setup. You could just capture an image from one of those. Probably won't be high res but it's fairly easy to set up if you have a computer that's always on during the specified time.

Just get a cheap webcam from any store anywhere for pocketchange, rig it, connect it to a cheap old PC to shoot pics at certain times each day and you're done. Don't waste exposures with a real DSLR.
