CallumRD1 Senior Member More info | I use Yongnuo RF-603s. They are radio, so the range is around 100m and they are only $30-ish a pair.

Nukehed Senior Member More info | +1 on Yongnuo RF-603's. Work great and have a decent distance. I used mine up to about 60 meters away while shooting rugby. "There are four boxes to use in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo. Use in that order."- Ed Howdershelt

Unless I'm missing something they don't say they are compatible with the 1D series for shutter release: Nikon D4S, D3, Nikkor AF-S 50 f/1.4G, Nikkor AF-S 85 f/1.8G, Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED, Nikkor AF-S 70-200 f/2.8G E VR II

Not sure what works with your camera but both iOS and Android have apps that offer remote control via IR. Your phone is going to be with you already anyway, right! Shane W

CallumRD1 Senior Member More info | Probably. It is a manual trigger, though, so not ettl, but for strobes, that shouldn't be an issue.

CallumRD1 Senior Member More info | The 603's don't have a transmitter and receiver half. They are universal. So you get 2 identical receivers in the box, one for your camera, one for your flash. So if you want to add onto the system, you don't end up with a bunch of transmitters sitting around. It's a much more flexible system.
