Can anyone recommend a good inexpensive wireless shutter release for a 1dmkIII ?

Thanks in advance...

Is $60 with a lot of versatility "inexpensive"? If so check http://www.satechi.net …er-remote-control-shutter (external link). It is also available from Amazon and some of the places in New York like B&H. Just make sure you get the WTR-A which is for the 1DMIII. This unit uses "radio" frequencies so range is quite good. It can also function as a intervalometer.

By the way a common complaint about the Satechi unit is a lack of an on/off switch on the transmitter. My unit has had the same batteries now for two years without any issues. I think Satechi says the batteries will last up to 10 years.

I've use the Yongnuous RF 602 wireless flash/shutter triggers - not sure what they cost these days though.

I use Yongnuo RF-603s. They are radio, so the range is around 100m and they are only $30-ish a pair.

+1 on Yongnuo RF-603's. Work great and have a decent distance. I used mine up to about 60 meters away while shooting rugby.

$31.99 for two transceivers and shutter release cable on Amazon. (No affiliation with Amazon)

Unless I'm missing something they don't say they are compatible with the 1D series for shutter release:

Taken from Amazon - Compatible with Canon Rebel 300D/350D/400D/450D/500D/550D/1000D Series cameras for shutter release control

Smartphone App maybe? Not sure what works with your camera but both iOS and Android have apps that offer remote control via IR. Your phone is going to be with you already anyway, right!

Probably. It is a manual trigger, though, so not ettl, but for strobes, that shouldn't be an issue.

So, they no longer make the 602s? What are the differences between the 602s and 603s?

The 603's don't have a transmitter and receiver half. They are universal. So you get 2 identical receivers in the box, one for your camera, one for your flash. So if you want to add onto the system, you don't end up with a bunch of transmitters sitting around. It's a much more flexible system.
