I saw an unbelievable price for a 5Diii on the banner ad in the forum so I clicked on it and found something kind of funny. They say they offer the body only for $2249, but in the kits offered below, they show several different options with the 5DIII with EF-S lenses only in the bundle.
Sounds sort of suspicious to me that any vendor would offer a full frame camera with EF-S lenses in the bundle! Or am I just thinking incorrectly that EF-S were designed for crop sensor cameras?

I've seen that site. EF-S lenses are useless on a full frame body like the 5DIII. Yes, the prices are too good to be true. Looks like a scam.

I guess luckily being that this is on a forum that should know better people would catch it, but I can only imagine other not so aware forums getting sucked into the issue.

Its hard to tell any more from reviews. Many of the scammers are hiring people to post fake reviews so even sites I used to rely on (like resellerratings.com) are not reliable any more.

I would suggest the Market watch thread here on POTN as a good place to look for (and report) scams.

I was quite surprised to see that website have a pretty high rating on http://www.resellerratings.com/store/overstockdigital (external link)

Then I started to read some of the good "reviews" I noticed a lot of them are very short, with little detail. Can't help but wonder if they are fake reviews. It would be easy to improve your ratings at resellerratings.com with fake reviews. The negative reviews there tend to be much more detailed and realistic looking, though you have to drill down pretty far before you can start finding them. The negative reviews make is sound as if the seller is using a lot of the usual bait and switch tricks, lots of misinformation and, at best, selling gray market stuff that should sell for a lot less.

I also seriously question anyone who would offer a 5DIII with an EF-S 18-55 lens with... Or with a 1GB Compact Flash memory card (that would hold 40 or fewer images). It also appears to be a Dane-Elec CF card, which tend to be slow, and they show it selling for $49 elsewhere on their website. You can get 16GB UDMA fast Sandisk and Lexar CF cards from B&H and Adorama for around $50 each.

Usually you should be very suspicious of prices that aren't pretty close to what B&H Photo and Adorma in NYC charge. They are two of the largest volume, lowest margin sellers around... are rebutible, reliable... both have been in the biz for decades. Anyone undercutting their prices by very much is almost certain to be cutting corners somewhere.

Yup fake reviews.

This is happening in a lot of industries. Check out hotel and restaurant reviews. Same thing.

Yeah definitely! A classic case of "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is".

Which is exactly what I was thinking. It is just sad that it continues to show up as a banner ad here even though they are obviously a none too trustworthy vendor.
I have been checking out the refurb deal at Canon for 5DIII for $2719 and saw this one and was like "what the heck". But I knew it was not going to turn out well considering seeing the EF-S lenses listed as being bundled with this full frame camera.

Actually the banners that show up are not chosen by POTN (or whoever the web owner is). It seems to be something thats part of the browser (cookies??) based on what things you've searched for lately. Recently I've been searching for a used motor home and the banners on some web sites I visit are for RV dealers in Calgary.

So just because its a banner in your bowser when your on POTN doesn't mean its chosen by POTN. I know it says "sponsored links" but I don't think Pekka gets to choose what shows up in there. I know we had this discussion on another thread - the eoscount one. Maybe someone more knowledgeable in Search Engine technology can help explain. I think its the web site host that decides what links show up - thats how they make their money.

Yeah, it looks at your browsing history to determine what ads to display. A few months ago, after updating some images on FAA, I started getting FAA ads displayed to me using my own images while I was on YouTube. It was trying to convince me to buy my own images! Probably, just because those were the pages that I had loaded in my recent history.

Same thing happens in the App Store. They make the app free for an hour and have a company download it 500 times, and they all post sort 5 star reviews.

Reseller Ratings is a waste of time. That site in itself has become a scam. They went overboard letting resellers cry foul and now the resellers are the ones posting fake reviews.

All you probably need to see right here. (external link)

Anonymous domain. Slow internet speed. They're a scam.

Here's someone who called the number:

They are a "Bait & Switch" SCAM company. When I called back to complain about their attempts to scam me and read off reviews, where other people had been told the same thing about the American Express being temporarily down almost a year ago, the guy actually laughed at me.

.... yea, pass.

Very best,

I have called them in the past. Total Scam. After dealing with them you may want to change your credit card numbers.
