Hey all,

I will be in Pagosa Springs, Colorado at Christmas. We have rented a house and I wanted to know if anyone has recommendations on some great shot locations. I know the moon will be bright so going to try some moon reflections in lakes at night with moonlight on mountains if I can find the right spot.

Where should I shot for night and day landscape? I have been there before, but I was purely birdwatching and not looking for shooting locations.

Thanks in advance,

I think all of the lakes down there are going to be frozen at Christmas. I always find it difficult to do much photography in the mountains in the winter. Many small roads are closed, so you are restricted to highways, and you aren't going to get far on the trails due to all the snow. My best guess is you can head up to Wolf Creek Pass and see what you see, or over to Durango and then north and up that series of passes.

BTW, so far at least, it's looking like a big snow year -this guy lives down there. (external link)

The lakes will be frozen. There are hot springs, but the evap/steam from them won't allow for any reflection shots. They would provide some cool drama though. If I were you, I would head up Wolf Creek Pass if you are looking for mountains.
