I'll be doing some executive head shots in a few days. I've been using my Elinchrom baby DO (27") octa for my main light with a deflector and two layers of diffusion to get a nice soft light with no hot spots. Subjects are middle-aged, some wear glasses, and one of the guys is completely bald. I haven't seen the space yet where I'll be doing the shooting, but I know it's a relatively small conference room. I started wondering if a socked 22" Kacey beauty dish or even a socked Mola Setti might produce a more pleasing effect. I've never really done a side-by-side and rarely sock my BDs. I'm curious if anyone has ever compared these or can recommend one over the other. The baby DO with deflector and two layers of diffusion seems like it would produce a very similar light to the Mola Setti (also 27") with a sock. Certainly easier to take the baby DO on location! Thoughts?

When a sock goes on a BD it turns it into a soft box. Albeit with a nice smooth light because of the deflector. I think the DO will give you great light and be easy to setup.

HERE is a post I made in the Bare Bulb thread. Its some test shots with various 4 light configurations. I was testing to find a light setup for basically the same situation.

I also used the collapsible 35" beauty dish that Cheetah Stand offers. Only my tutorial site is a comparison of its light with a 28" beauty dish and a Westcott Rapid. If you want some more input data.
