Thinking about trading my 5d mark iii body for a 6d. I dont need all the features of the mark iii, ie: fast focus system, size, weather sealing etc... I do however still want image quality and low light performance. The features on the mark iii are a bit too much for what I need. I think the 6d would suffice. Any comments? Would it be a good trade for me since I just shoot around the house and while biking around?

All in all, I just feel that I am not making use of this awesome machine. Maybe I should give it up to someone who will actually use it for what i was made for.

:(:(:(

What do you shoot anyway?

Well if you think that 6D really suit your shooting style, then go ahead.

But keep this in mind, are you going to miss the features in 5D3 once you downgrade to 6D?

How much are you going to save (if you're thinking of the cost difference)? If you sell the 5D and buy a new 6D, you aren't going to have a grand in your pocket.

edit: well, you might have $1000

if you're not taking advantage of the "awesome machine" then it may be worth trading down

Like Kel (1Tanker), I doubt you are achieving more than wasting money downgrading.

im using now the 50mm f/1.4 for general , 85 mm f/1.8 for portraits
MP-E 65 f/2.8 for macro
the 6D small size and weight and i like the SD memory for my Laptop without using any other menory adapters
my bag became light in weight and size

Really like this comment. Making me lean more towards trading/selling. I shoot at home most of the time, do not get paod for shooting. Mostly a hobby photographer. I guess the worry for me is that if i get rid of it and "downgrade" will i miss those features I once had but never used? Hard to describe...

If its paid for, why not just hold on to it. Nothi worse than sellers remorse.

my BIL sold off his near new 5D mark iii for $2400. He figured the price was going to tank in the coming months/weeks, and didnt lose any money doing so.

not saying he did the right thing or not, but bodies have a notoriously bad resale value.

to TS, if you can score a healthy 1200 from the trade, I think it'll be worth it. The 6D is a plenty capable camera, just takes a little bit more work/attention to catch some subjects. I kinda grew to love the super center..... loved it so much, shot halloween without a flash ;)

the high iso noise profile seems especially easy to clean up. If you're not using your camera much, or need stronger cross points, then definitely trade it. A 6D mark ii with all 11 cross points, swivel screen, and PDAF would be epic.

It's all about..getting the equipment..you want that meets your needs, and not worrying about what every one else is shooting.

I think you made a good move, determining what you needed and going for it.

After a few days of thought, I have decided to hang on to it. Got a few vacations coming up and it will come in handy (especially the weather sealing). Thanks for the opinions!
