B&H is selling that lens for a nice price for a short time. Id jump into since i love that lens. I think also the newer versions are improved since first release. However, this might be an announcement for a new version?

My prediction: 50 f/1.2 to be discontinued; and new 50L f/1.4 to come out matching sharpness S35 wide open with better af/etc. (and the question, would i trade my f/1.2 for an f/1.4 that's lighter with better MFD performance(AF is fine)? I don't know...)

I don't know, indeed. I doubt that Canon would retire one of its signature lenses, despite the occasional hating. They've had a 1.2 in their lineup since forever.

My bigger fear is that they'll introduce a new 1.2 - after I just bought mine a couple of months ago!

Mail in rebates are lame. I never got mine on the 30d I bought. There has been plenty of people that have gotten screwed out of a mail in rebate by Canon. Canons excuse. We don't handle the rebates a 3rd party does. Lame.

Fixed that for you ;)

I would still buy it if they make that as a L with weather sealing and L build quality.

50 1.4L with Sigma 35 sharpness wide open sounds awesome ;)

But knowing Canon I bet the next 50 refresh will be a 50 2.0 IS with consumer build and charging $800 for it, not to mention an extra $50 for the hood.

Fingers crossed ;)

Instead of Canon charging $1500 for it, it will be $799 from Sigma.

I'd say $499 or $549 maximum. Its just a 50 1.4, one of the simplest designs.

I'll settle for either an EF 50mm f/1.8 IS USM or an EF 55mm f/2 L IS Macro USM (here I am thinking the 55mm little brother of the 100L).
