+1 good stuff. I'm contemplating it too at times but the Nikon 1.4G is so far doing a good enough job

Hehe! I choose what is right for the task at hand. :)

I want to see you shoot a wedding with nothing but the Quadcopter.

Disappointed that you cannot charge via USB if the batteries are in the grip and secondly no external charger is provided. Little odd since I have had a few Sony's in the past.

Need to spend more time with the LA-EA4 adaptor. Should have the Canon AF adaptor shortly :)

I still the think the Grip is a bit overkill... if i wanted a grip i'd walk around with my 1d MK4... :-) (my personal opinion)

But i rarely shoot vertically with my Sony.

I found a dust spec on my sensor... what are you guys using to clean out your sensors?

USB is spec'd at 500ma maximum current. The grip is a significant charge load.

I only found the need for it since I wasnt happy with the overhang of my fingers but agree it is a little overkill. I have had to disable the grip shutter button for being far too sensitive.

Just using a rocket blower at the moment on it.

I haven't needed to do so yet, but I imagine cleaning my a7 sensor will be easier than cleaning my 5D III's sensor (much shorter chamber). I too use a rocket blower (biggest one) and Visible Dust arctic butterfly brush and sensor swabs/drops for stuff that the blower can't dislodge.

dtufino...

In the setup menu there is "Cleaning Mode" used to clean the image sensor. Have you tried that? According to the camera specs listed at B&H, the camera has a "Dust Reduction System: Charge protection coating on optical filter and ultrasonic vibration mechanism."

I decided to get the Sony 55mm f1.8 and it arrived a short time ago. I thought for the difference in quality, this would be a best fit for me. Because it's a native Sony lens, I can take advantage of features besides auto focus such as face recognition and so forth. Lots of things for me to check out... :D

At any rate, here are the first two images of mine using this lens. I did no sharpening to these and I've uploaded them at full size but cropped to 16 x 9 for you to check out if you wish.

Note...this combo looks and feels really small without the adapter and larger Canon/Sigma lens mounted. ;)

^Congrats Gene...should be an outstanding lens. I've been more of a wide-angle shooter until lately. And since adding the Otus 55mm to my kit, I absolutely love the versatility of that focal length. I expect it to be practically glued to my a7 this year.

I'm starting to have more thoughts of getting an a7R. The a7 is a perfect fit for general purpose walk-around stuff, but everytime I do a big scene, like my KC photo below, I think it would be great to have 36MP for increased resolution. In other words, I like the notion of keeping the a7 while also having the a7R for those max resolution shots (mainly landscapes and architecture). I guess both having the cake and eating it too is looking more appealing. Although I had high expectations for the a7(R), I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I am; which is a great thing.

I quite like that second one Gene.

David, the B&W conversion looks like an early 20th century shot, particularly thanks to some of those foreground buildings (as long as you don't pay too much attention to the cars  )

I shall share one also with the 55 1.8. Not really a great background since the bokeh looks much better than this with a bit more of a simpler background

Thanks. It's been years since I've used a 50ish mm lens on a 35mm camera myself, the last being a Nikon film camera.

 That's what I thought too. :)

Speaking of history, the foreground building, Union Station, was the site of the "Kansas City Massacre" supposedly involving "Pretty Boy" Flloyd in 1933: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City_massacre (external link)
