Why using MF Canon FD over native 35/2.8?

I think the newer Zeiss / Sony FE lens should have better image resolution than the older lens?

I get better images... better bokeh with the older lenses than i do with the Sony one... the Autofocus with that 2.8 lens is just too slow... i achieve faster and better results with old lenses....

i'll just be using Manual focus lenses on my A7.

I see...

Any plan to try some old Contax lens, Minolta or Olympus?

BTW I like your wife shooting style more :)

Mines on the way in the post! Can't wait either!

In the mail? I couldn't wait once I'd made my mind up. and then if I'd ordered it the buyer's remorse would have kicked in big time. I had to get it in store. Come to think of it, on that day if they didn't have one of the Sony's in stock I might have gotten an EM1.

Arrived this arvo!

Can't use it yet as I had to send in the application to redeem the EF converter (was in the box) :(

David "dtufino" is the expert on that in this thread. But, also have a look at the a7 image thread over on the Fred Miranda forum: lots of great images from old legacy lenses there. :) Here's the link: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1255248 (external link)

As for checking one out, I've seen a couple people in various threads referencing checking out the a7 at a Best Buy store (I don't typically visit that store, so I can't verify that). It's probably not going to be too challenging to find one.

Couldn't find a best buy with one local. I'll just have to keep looking.

Ebay is your best friend.... :-)

I'm using my A7 with VERY old canon glass.

Canon FL 50mm f/1.4 (Super Sharp wide open, even better stepped down)
Canon FD 100 f/2.8 (amazing sharp, i only use this lens wide open)
Canon FD 135 f/2.5 (AMAZING, I got a SUPER mint one on ebay for 85US and got another one because this one is just too mint... lol)
Canon FL 135 f/2.5 (Tack Sharp)

I also have the Sony 35mm f/2.8 which i'm selling very soon! (if anyone is interested let me know, i can sell it at a very great price.

Thanks for the info. I found a a 50mm f/1.4 and 100mm f/2.8 on fm that I'm tempted to pick up early...

make sure you pick up 2 cheap Canon FD to NEX adapters.

Then you're all set.

Those look great! Evaluating these from a lens performance standpoint, the FE 55mm f/1.8 is clearly a brilliantly sharp and well-corrected lens; it does a great job capturing detail (microcontrast). The bokeh is good, but not great (the distant bokeh in the trees looks a touch edgy/nervous, but the blur on the drum looks great). All in all, it is an excellent (and best currently available) native lens for the a7(R).

From an image-quality standpoint, I have high expectations for the upcoming Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art as well.

How is the handling using the FE 55mm f/1.8? It looks like Sony and Zeiss are making lenses that are proportional to the a7(R) a priority with their designs. I actually enjoy the bulk from my heavy Canon-mount Zeiss lenses on the a7. I know a lot of people get hung up on lens imbalance, but the a7 is so tiny, that it is virtually swallowed up by the bigger lenses. The result for me is that, handling-wise, the a7 effectively becomes a comfortable lens handle.

Thanks David. So far, the lens has worked extremely well. There have been a couple of occasions however that there was a lot of CA in the specular highlights that Photoshop had trouble dealing with...even with the Sony lens profile used.

The 55mm lens is very small so I can only imagine how small the 35mm lens will be. I doubt I will be collecting all the new Sony lenses as they are released. The Canon lenses work too well with the adapter and like you, using the Canon lens/Sony body combo feels like I just have a big sensor strapped on the back of my lens. :D

This is the school and museum where two of my grandkids attend. It's a great place to learn. While photographing the school, I heard an awful sqawking noise. I looked up and the previous images show what met my eyes...lots and lots of geese.

Shot using the Sony 55mm.

I couldn't even see the geese through my viewfinder because of how bright it was. I could only hope the camera would focus...and it did great.
