I love the 40mm pancake on my full frame 5D3. A 22mm pancake -- ideally with a EF mount, but I'd settle for EF-S -- would be great for a crop body, and would make the SL1 an ideal compact solution.

That's why we have the 40mm pancake for SLR and 22mm for the EOS M. Yes, there are quite strict restrictions limiting what focal ranges/apertures that may be made in the pancake format.
