13 is a nice shot, although I'm not sure what the groom would think of the bald spot. As for the others, the next time you do a shoot, avoid harsh midday sun. Schedule early morning or late afternoon. And stay away from mottle shade as if it was hot-boiling lava. And ditch selective color (#76). This one could also use a broader depth of field.

Hey Joe.....

Thanks for the reply. I totally understand the light. They however did not. I scheduled the shoot for early morning however they wouldnt budge on noon. /facepalm.

what is mottle shade? Shade of branches and leaves?

Sunlight poking through leaves. Combined with shade, it can give you hot spots that overwhelm your camera's dynamic range.

You have an eye for it, though. Some nice Ida's and composition on some of these!

2nd (love) and last shot (silhouette) are the best.

1st shot, not too bad, good B&W conversion, good use of rule of thirds, but nothing special.

3rd shot, face in too much shadow, could use repositioning or use of a reflector.

4th shot - looks a bit like a movie poster with the upset protagonist and evil villain laughing in the background..... :/.. nice use of technique tho.. :)

5th shot - over-saturated colours.

6th shot - model looks rather blank, doesn't convey any sort of emotion.

1. Looks nice, might look nicer if you cloned out those stray branches
2. I'm not normally a fan of the colour selection (in fact, I almost hate it!) but this works well here!!! I like it! Has a great first impact
3. The composition in this one feels off to me. I'm not sure what I'm suppose to be looking at, I feel like I'm drawn over his shoulder. I wonder how it would look if you flipped it. I suspect it would work better. (but then might look strange because you can see her engagement ring lol)
4. I'm just not a fan
5. cute
6. You could crop this one a little bit tighter from the top right corner. It's nice, but agree with the vacant look on her face, leaves you wondering what she's looking at. I could see this one if she was leaning her head on his shoulder and looking down the camera. :)
7. Great silhouette, I really like this! I might go so far as to crop the tree trunk from the right side just to see how it looks. But I love the leaves cascading down around them. it's really nice :)

That's being really critical, I hope you don't mind! I've only done a handful of engagement shoots myself. THank you for posting :)

oh and btw, had a quick look at some of the pics on your flickr. I like 57, and also 55 is lovely and clear on her ring. Oh and 50 ! (i'm going through them now haha) gorgeous!!!!!! After looking through them, I don't think you posted your best shots on here, lots of nice ones on your flickr :)!!! 46 is gorgeous too!

hey no, i will never ever ever ever get upset at being critiqued. I think all of your advice is valuable. I also appreciacte the compliments.

I also appreciate you taking the time to look through some of the other photos I didnt post. 55 was one of my favs and not really sure why I didnt post it.

For the "Love one".... its not selective colour. The ring is on the ground on like concrete and I just cranked the red and highlights a bit. The ground was that colour in direct sunlight.

At the end of the day, for Free this couple and his and her family love them and thats all that mattered up until the point where I know I could do sooo much better with the help of you guys. Thanks again

Mark
