I have a 6d, 60d and a 5d. I will keep either the 60d or 5d as a back up as I am in business (albeit - a fledgling business) and sell the other. The 60d is obviously newer but the 5d is so touted as being wonderful. In the 5d thread there are many that have sold their 60d to buy a 5d. I shoot portraits for business and landscapes and other misc. for hobby. I'd appreciate the thoughts on which to sell with the focus mainly on the portrait end. If I do sell the 60d, I'd sell the kits lens with it as well. I realize that I would then need a wider lens for the ff, but that's OK. Thanks!

Wouldn't you want a backup (full frame) ?

If something goes wrong with the 6d during a shoot, you would have something comparable, the 5d to keep shooting with.

My next camera will be a 6D coming from a 5D, The 60d isn't even an option for me.

I have a 6D/60D combo now and like them both. The 5D is very old now and I think the 60D has better ISO performance. I would sell the 5D. Plus, the ergonomics are very similar between the 60D & 6D...multi-directional button, etc..

Both good points...hence my quandary.

If you can find anyone willing to pay $$, sell the 5D. Just a quick peek here on POTN show 2 5Ds for sale in the last couple of months and no one bought them. Their price was high, $600+. There are a couple on our local CL as well for less than $500, also not sold. Everyone seems to like them but no one is willing to shell out $500 for them.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I would sell the 5D (I recently sold mine after using it since 2006) for three reasons:

1. The 60D has automatic sensor cleaning. Keeping the 5D sensor clean was always a pain.
2. The 6D and 60D are very similar in size, feel and operation. I found years ago when pairing a 5D with a 20D that using a full-frame and crop-sensor camera together expanded my effective focal-length options. It's a technique that works well for many photographers.
3. The 60D is much newer, so presumably has more service life remaining.

I myself am currently considering a 60D to go with my 6D.

Hi Brenda. If you do keep the 60d, would it make sense to sell the kit lens anyway and purchase one that you could use for both bodies? Option 3.

If your hobby shooting includes wildlife or sports then keeping the 60d would give you more reach from your tamron lenses.

Good luck on your choice.

You should be able to get about $500 for your 5D. I sold mine for $575, which covered shipping and PayPal. However, unless you really need the money, why don't you just keep the 5D as a backup to your backup?

I really miss the crop camera - if I would have two bodies, the second would surely be the crop.

Despite its age the 5D would make an awesome Christmas present. :)

This^^^

I'm one of the people that sold my 60D to buy a 5D and haven't looked back. When I bought the 5d2 I tried shooting a wedding with 5D2/60D combo and the 60D just couldn't come close. So I immediately sold the 60D and picked up the 5D. Best decision I ever made.

I can barely tell the images apart but with the 60D I knew right off which was which. If something were to happen to my 5D and I couldn't have it repaired I would either buy another 5D or wait until the 6d prices to drop. Which seems to be happening rapidly. I wouldn't buy a 6D now at the current prices.

Well, it seems pretty evenly divided on which to sell. My 5d is a barely used one in minty condition. My 60d is in good condition but has more clicks on it.

I do like the option of maybe selling the 5d and my 18-135. I just may put both up for sale and see what happens. ;)

I would say keep the 5d and sell the 60d and the 18-135. I would replace the lens with a Tamron 28-75 2.8 or a 24-105. I like having a 60D with my 5d2 but I use the 60D for wildlife and birds etc as well as a secondary camera but if my main interest was portraits or landscapes I much prefer full frame.

Ever consider selling both and getting a 5d2 or another 6d? Both are more affordable now. Just a thought
