I've noticed this lamp-looking thing here on my 7D for a while. It looks like a AF assist lamp, but I'm not sure. I can't seem to find any results on Google. Is it possible to use it for AF? I hate using the popup flash for AF assist.

Do you have your owner's manual? If so, what version of the manual do you have? I'll point you to the right page(s) if I know which manual you have.

I don't have a manual unfortunately. I bought it used.

I'm aware some sort of light came from it, but for some (stupid) reason I was under the impression you could use it as an AF assist.. :S

Oopsie.
