After a hot streak, fell into a cold streak including this game. A few good shots here, but what was really great was that one of my shots showed up on the Chicago Blackhawks site (here: http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=689975 (external link)), although the credit went to the team (I was the lone team photographer that night) so my name doesn't get credit. Still, at least I know it.

And a good sequence here of a player getting tripped up and sliding into the goalie:

Great looking shots! I am assuming these are taken above the glass? The higher angle is nicely minimized by the 300mm lens.

Most of our rinks have netting and so we are forced to shoot through the glass which really affects IQ/contrast.

The 300mm shots are so sharp!

Thanks for the compliments! Yes, these were taken over the glass. The glass on the corners is higher and also protected by netting, but outside of the corners everything is open and the glass is shorter.

Shooting through the glass isn't terrible here, but you do lose about 3 stops, and like you, lose contrast and some IQ. I've found over the years shooting above the glass yields better IQ/colors, and you also get some different perspectives from shooting below.

What locations do you usually shoot?
