Who cares? This isn't a "no PS" thread. I didn't have my camera on me this night but I did watch the moon rise from the beach and it was huge. This photo looks very realistic for that night. I don't know if you've actually used this lens, or another lens at 600mm, but yeah, photo compression can mess with the brain :-)

Yeah it really was super hazy here with a few minor fires going in the cascades, combined with stagnate air, and I was down by the Columbia river.

Here is a screen shot of the images from lightroom, this should help clarify (used auto white bal):

IMAGE: http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n515/markesc/Tamron%20150-600/lightroom_zps8fdb9cfc.jpg

Sometimes you just get lucky. I learned a lot of difficult lessons in the film days, have been doing photos since 1996, so I figure, I deserve a decent moon shot/luck. The shot itself is pretty easy using TPE.

Thanks for everyones compliments! It was simple planning, tripod, mirror lock, full manual mode, and bug spray!

Two more opportunities this year!

I'm genuinely unsure of the point you're trying to make (are you saying the moon is too big? Is cropping now considered 'Photoshop'?), but just to clarify:

600mm lens horizontal FOV on 1x crop factor (full frame): 3.4 degrees (approx 6.2 'super'moon widths)
600mm lens horizontal FOV on 1.6x crop factor (APS-C): 2.1 degrees (approx 3.8 'super'moon widths)
600mm lens w/1.4x TC horizontal FOV on 1.6x crop-factor (APS-C): 1.5 degrees (approximately 2.7 'super'moon widths)

I have no idea of which of the above setups the (superb) photo used, but then I don't consider a mild crop to be a big problem when posting web-sized images.

You would need approximately a 5.5 degree horizontal FOV for a 'super'moon to only take up 1/10th of the width of the image (roughly 380mm on a FF camera).

A million times more technical than I'll ever be!

I shot using the Canon 5d MkIII (no extenders), mirror lock, IR remote shutter release, 2 second delay, full manual mode, ISO 400, apx 483mm, Fll, 1/5th.

Oddly enough, I've tried shots on the 70d even with the 1.4x kenko pro, and the images just look blah...

I don't think most people were doubting your shot...it was pretty obvious to most that it was just a legit good shot...i love TPE, but i feel like i spend more time just figuring out days where there will be cool sunsets/moonrises as opposed to actually going out there and getting it done when the days arrive...

again, nice shots

There was no derogatory intent meant. I hope you did not feel offended. If so I apologize.
Your shots are amazing whether PS was involved or not and you say not. There is an end to it.
Some folks here seem to get pretty upset over others comments so please ignor theirs, if you felt it was negative as it was not intended.

Anyone having success in getting this lens in the UK.

Have seen a couple people with it, but Warehouseexpress went from expecting stock back to pre-order, most other seem to be waiting for stock with "typically 10 or 24 days" depending on the supplier, which I am slightly dubious of if WEX is still saying pre-order.

Yes sir I am. But that is not likely to happen anytime soon. The cost of the divorce attorney would eat up too much camera money!;)

Here in US it seems to be vaporware--non-existant

I don't understand what the problem is. Why does B&H and/or Adorama have such a hard time getting these?
I walked into my local camera store, Overland Photo Supply, ordered it and they had it in about two weeks. They had two of them. I bought one and the other was there when I left.

I would think that B&H and Adorama have thousands of people waiting whereas your local store has a much smaller customer base.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
