Thanks! Again, AF speeds seem good to me. :)

Images look really nice too! I'm very likely to at least try this out in store/purchase it. Then return if I really don't like it, but I am really doubting that. :D

Edit: Did you remove CA at all? If not, this is really nice. Basically no CA, or very very minimal.

sure it does do AF , and body will show correct EXIF as 6.3 ( not sure how they fake the body to made body think the max aperture may be a 5.6 )

using with 600D no problem and i even can put a kenko 1.4 on it. although this time it cannot report correct exif (still F6.3 at tele) , but af are working.

tamron 150 600 with kenko TC are not working on 5D3 , reported as error 01. i've told tamron this issue and hope they can fix it ......

i am sure that this lens will perform better on aps cmos like 7D because more pixel count in same area and less vignetting (cropped)
also 1.6x we can have more reach (exposure metering and AF are challenged if the target is too small in viewfinder [as also on the metering and AF system] , sometimes APSC body does have advantages lol )

Thanks for this info Frank I have the 7D and also would like to try this with my 1.4x but mine is canon not kenko. I hope the AF work with my 7D and 1.4 canon TC :)

Dear hksfrank,

I just want to repeat what jaspa has said. I also appreciate that you have joined the forum and shared your experience with the Tamron 150-600.

In a dream world I'm sure everyone on this board would have a bag full of "L" lenses and a personal assistant to carry them around. But for many of us the ability to get a bit more reach and decent results from a lens is all that we ask. From your review it appears that Tamron has done a pretty good job of answering the request of the less well funded photographers of the world. ;)

Thanks again for the time and effort you put into your review.

Regards,

Tim Murphy :)

+1 here Frank.

i'd be worried that the canon TC would even fit on this lens...doesn't it only fit on the longer L lenses?

The Canon TC requires a hole in the back of the lens. Because of this there is a special end-cap on the lens-side of the Canon TC.

Have not try this yet to any other lens so I don't know. If not I will sell this and get the kenko instead. Pairing the kenko with my ef300mm I don't see any problem so it's a win win situation for me.

It should be fairly obvious to see whether a Canon TC will fit or not just by peaking at the rear mount. If it's in-set enough then it'll fit no issues. Where it gets troublesome is where it fits only beyond a certain zoom setting like the 70-300L.

Not that I would ever bother using a TC on this lens ...

I'm currently on "backup internet" (aka download limited) at the moment. How are those RAW files looking to people especially at 600mm f/8? Granted not really a fan of some of those shutter speeds just to give best chance of reviewing the IQ fairly.

Thanks for those raws. That looks extremely useable. Actually, outstanding for a $1000 lens wide open at 600mm.

This lens is definitely on my list. Might sell the 300 4.0 L to help fund it.

Yeah, those RAWs look very good. But we should keep in mind that they will likely be a little softer on crop cameras like the 7D or 70D. I'm still interested though based on these sample shots and the AF speed videos.

After looking at the photo of the life preserver across the lake @ I assume 100% crop and with poor lighting conditions, I'm excited. The detail seems to be all there and very good.

Can't wait to receive my copy and do some real world tests of my own.

AF speed on 5dmk3 doesn't look bad at all. And for birds I am not going to be shooting far and real close that often. I wish the test shots were in better light.
