I'd say keep looking until a source is found. Have you checked other camera bags yet.

What kind of a key is it? A drum style or a traditional slot key?

I'd say try a locksmith to see if they can pick it to get you into the case...otherwise you will have to drill it out :(

Thanks Keyan..just like to say the case is open and that's where I thought the keys were..I'm going away and want to put the lens in the case and lock it.. to keep it safe on the journey..the lock has 640 stamped on it so I would had thought a dealer would be able to get a replacement..but no..maybe the number means something to a locksmith..

if they're the same as the 300mm cases I'd be surprised if a good locksmith couldn't get a key sorted easily, it's not as though they're very complex... (suspect a 5-year old with a paperclip could open it in 60 seconds)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

The lock on my hard has 840 stamped on it..canon u.k. say that Canon do not do keys so my only hope is to find someone that has 840 keys and get a copy made or find a lock smith that can make a couple of keys..

Key for my 500 case has 840 stamped on it and it looks to be cut just like this one.

So there might be an idea to print that photo of the key and visit a locksmith.

If all keys are the same, then the precision of the lock is probably not too high either. So most probably, all you need is a key that is "roughly in the same ball park".

The key also looks symmetric, allowing it to be inserted 180 degree rotated too. That should make it even easier to cut a new key.

Just checked my 300 F2.8 and 800 F5.6 cases and guess what - they are numbered 840 as well! So we have people from around the planet all with the same lock numbers.
Firstly what is the point of having a lock if they are all the same and secondly, given that they are all the same why isn't it a standard part?
Bad one Canon!
