Time-lapse photography/video

Time-lapse photography/video.
How does it work??
I gather you take one picture per second for example and then play it back at 24fps.. But how do you glue it together (software or can this be done in camera??) and any other tips/tricks and things to know??
Do I need a remote timer switch device that triggers every second or do I have to do that myself and time it??
I will be using my kit shown below, is this enough gear ??
Sorry in advance for being a bit clueless but this looks really interesting after watching some nature videos in time lapse.. Thanks in advance

Most high end video editing SW can import a series of stills and convert to 24 or 30 frames a second video. Several companies make a remote for timelapse shooting such as:

Motion for timelapses is often done with a motorized slider or crane such as those from Kessler:

I just researched some of these switches but couldn't find and that switch continuously under 1 second.. Every half a second for example... Anyone know of one??

I do not know of one that is that quick. Most timelapses' are done within the one shot every 5-10 seconds range, or even longer for things such as long exposure night timelapses'

Magic Lantern software for your camera has a built in setting to shoot a time-lapse and have it ready to import as a video file. I've done some picture by picture and that's a nightmare. Agreed though, time-lapse are usually shot every 5-10 seconds.

I've done quite a few time lapses this year, and Magic Lantern has been invaulable to me! I highly recommend it. I actually use it with all my DSLRs. For stitching the footage together I generally use after effects, but know that there are others that due the stitching with Quicktime Pro. The first one I ever did was with imovie, and that was kind of a pain. The feature (that I use) in Magic Lantern is the intervalometer. I haven't looked into the option of having it create the video file fore me though. I think I'd rather have all the individual shots, but I'm weird that way.

I've done everything from 5 seconds to every 5 minutes depending on the project
