I have a friend whose father has painted a number of pieces of artwork during his lifetime......he's 90 now and she would like to have all of his paintings photographed and put together in a "coffee table" type book or album. She wants something on the larger side that would show off photographs of the paintings nice and large. So far, the best I've found is a large lay flat wedding style album. It will work but it's not exactly what she's looking for (she wants something larger). Any suggestions on a good quality company who could print such a thing?

Something around 16"x20" would be an almost ideal size for what she wants.

16x20 opened spread? thats a 16x10 book. 16x20 page size is either 20x32 or 32x40 which is quite large.

That, is way beyond the scope of any lab I've seen. Even a normal book printing facility.

Practically speaking that seems way too large. I did a coffee table book for a country club a couple years ago. I think it was a 10 by 24 speed. Many album companies do 12x12 which will give you 12x24 but thats about as big as I've seen.

Sounds roughly like an A3 sized piece of paper - which would be around 42*60cm - wheras your 16*20 inches would be around 40*50cm.
See if WhiteWall respond to you - as I pointed out earlier, on their German site they offer books as well - up to A3.

Adorama prints books, and I've heard good reports.

POTN has used Blurb for books, and I've heard good reports!

Blurb glues the books - a properly bound book would last longer.
I have no idea what binding method WhiteWall uses.

The latest from POTN is a very professional job.

I put A3+ and BOOK into my search engine and a very long list of specialist book manufacturers appeared, offering a vast array of large and small printings. So its not exactly difficult finding them.

Funnily enough I JUST got an email about a new Adorama book size - they say it's a 12x15 photo book, so a 30 inch spread (with the famous Adorama lay-flat binding) http://instagram.com/p/gdqRSpJt70/ (external link)

FWIW, "way back when" we'd mount prints back to back & have a book bound at the local library.
