Diffusion looks great.

If you have a colour cast you could setup a white balance by shooting a spectrographic reference card with it, either in camera if you use JPG or as a click balance in your raw processer (best way for me).

How do you folks get close to anything with these huge diffusers?! :eyes

Here's mine. It only gets in the way if the subject is inside a bush or something. And as far as scaring the bugs away with it; I just have to be extra stealthy ;)

Styrofoam bowl, and a sheet of thin packing foam... the stuff that often covers a new TV screen or computer monitor. I've also used a sheet of paper towel (actually a split sheet of two-ply), but it rips pretty easily.
