I have a 40mm Pancake lens and 1D Mark III. I was just wondering if not having a focus scale would ever be an issue?

I have the 17-40mm f/4 L as well. Any recommendations on which would be preferable. I know you don't really want to go too wide for panoramic shots.

Any lens will do.

  • Shoot in manual mode.
  • Shoot in portrait orientation.
  • Overlap each shot by 1/3.
  • Focus at, or beyond, hyperfocal distance.
  • Use a tripod.

My wisdom is learned from the experience of others.

A telephoto or even 50-100mm will yield alot more detail. Programs like microsoft ice allow you to do multi row panoramas.

If you want a one-shot picture then the 40mm is fine.
It's bit tight on my 60D, but OK.

If you want a multi-shot pano then anything will do.
