So my friend asked me to take pictures of her baby girl the other day. They didn't turn out too terribly. I'm not used to taking pictures of other people's kids and 3 weeks old is such a weird age to work with.

I LOVE this picture, but I am so upset because I wasn't fast enough and Avalie is out of focus, and her mom moved too fast for me to snap another one and the moment was gone.

This is the first baby I've ever photographed other than my own. Also the only girl I've ever taken pictures of, haha. I stressed over and over to them that I wasn't a professional and I really had no idea what I was doing, but they loved the results so I'm glad about that!

Can I just say that me and editing just do not get along at ALL. I can never get the colors right, and I can never make a picture look how I WANT. It's very frustrating.

well you learn from practicing. It looks like you gave it a good effort. 3 weeks old is a tough age. Amazing how only a week makes a difference. They are much more alert and squirmy.

Thanks for sending me this way Karebear, I love the images! If you're not used to taking pictures of children, then you did a tremendous job (Children meaning babies really). Because these aren't studio shots, and they probably weren't posed much (placing the baby and waiting for her to do something of interest) then they are awesome! I would have been delighted to receive these images, the colors are natural, the lighting is fine assuming no speedlite set up or anything, the focus is tac sharp and the moments are captured! I would have loved a B+W one or two, but that's just an opinion, these are GREAT!

Thank you Xarik! Aside from my own babies (which, once a day goes by you don't get a second chance on that age!) I've never really done "newborn" photography. No flash or anything, just the natural light from the gigantic bay window they had, I was very excited to hear about that.

You know, I had intended on making a few black and white, but after editing all the pictures for a week (I ended up giving them 90 photos) it completely slipped my mind that I wanted to do that. I haven't given them the CD yet and now that you've reminded me I think I'll go do that before I forget again. ;D
