The hot shoe on my 5D3 is a bit gimpy. I need to send it in for repair. I have no time to do so right now so am looking for a temporary solution.

Simple question. Will this work?

Can I use a PC Sync cable splitter to trigger both hot-shoe mounted 600EX-RT and also a CyberSyn CST transmitter? (Or any other trigger for that matter?)

I don't need ETTL for my Off camera strobes. However it'd be nice to be able to keep that for the hot-shoe mounted 600EX-RT. Not the end of the world if I need to go Manual.

Would I need something to sit between the hot shoe of the camera and the 600EX-RT to completely cut-off the connection?

Some thoughts(as they usually are :) )

Definitely send the body in asap.

Can you rent a body or can canon cps send you one while yours is in the shop?

If I am understudying your dilemma correctly...

Only the hotshot itself is going to give you ETTL, pc sync will NOT send any ETTL information of any kind. So if you are going to use a pc sync splitter, you obviously loose ETTL information - PC sync only says "wax on", "wax off"

So, you would need a shoe adapter that is COLD on the bottom, and HOT on the top

This do-dadd was also on amazon

I do NOT shoot as much as you do, however I use a LOT of PC-sync cable connections. IF there exists any opportunity to use even ONE fewer PC-sync cable connection, I take it.

They are fiddely as you know what.

Every option I think of involves more and more cords and connectors. Can you get an assistant to hold the 600ex for you?

As a last resort, you could call up one of the major dealers : Digital Transitions, Capture Integration. They have technical advisors pretty much on standby and believe in customer service over sales. SOMEONE at each of those two will be able to properly advise you.

Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, I just noticed it this weekend. I don't have time to send it in. Right now, I don't have a CPS membership because they changed up the benefits for the Platinum level so I've been on the fence on the whole thing. (Used to be that I got 60% off repairs, which was a huge benefit)

I'm definitely going to get it repaired of course. I have one more wedding for 2013 so I just want to get through that. Hence the temporary hack job!

Yes, I can go with Manual on one of the cameras + 600EX-RT. Not a problem at all.

The picture in the aliexpress link with the splitter and two coiled sync cables is what I'm thinking of. If you can, try for right angle connectors so you can rubber band them together.

The amount of my own hair I've pulled out at only 25, from those connectors alone....

I think those cables are from China. The same ones on Amazon. They are going to take 30+ days to get here. Not in time for this weekend's gig!

Anyways, I'll just have to come up with something.

Maybe adorama has stuff like that in stock.

Two of the SAME item is fine on a splitter. The problem of putting two different items (different types, different brands) is that you do not know that the two items have same polarity (is the signal on the center pin and the ground on the surround, for both items?) and voltage...does one item trigger at 5V and other other triggers at 50V (or even worse 200V that fries the 5V device?)?

Just an update. I decided against the splitter. I just needed something to hold the loose connection in place so found something to wedge between the camera and the trigger and/or flash towards the front. Holds it in place really well and the flash goes off each and every time. One more wedding and obviously my camera is going in for repairs.
