Saturday night while in bed my wife said how about we go to your favorite birding spot tomorrow and stay there overnight, ok arm twisted I said yes.
Sunday morning I spend running around getting gear together and charging batteries, then a 2 1/2 hour drive we arrive about 2pm
The first area we go too there is not much going on, I suggest we go to another area about 2 min away there is not usually much going on in that area but you never know.
Eurica, they had nearly drained one of the lakes and it was full of just about every wading bird you can think of and each spices were there in big numbers, there were also a number of non wading birds there as well. We stayed until the sun was too low to get a fast shutter speed and for the first time ever I used up my cf card. It then dawned on me I had not packed my computer to download the images, 624 of them.
Back at the hotel that night I frantically searched my camera bag and found I had packed a spare card,. We went back at dawn the next day and it was just like the day before.
A couple of quick photos as I am just about dead on my feet and ready for bed, shoulders killing me, hands just about locked close with holding the camera and the 100-400 lens.
The first shot will give you an idea of what it was like, shot at 100mm and the rest of the sky was like this to the left and right of the photo.

Thanks guys it was nirvana. The wife and I talked about it on the drive home and agreed was so good that it did not matter if I did not get one picture from it, just experiencing it was enough.
A couple more photos.
