We are trying to think of ideas for a trip or gathering we could do with some extended family in maybe January for 4-5 days or so. This would be about 10 adults, 10 children ages 5 months to 11 years, and one sick woman who can only walk maybe 3-5 minutes at a time. We could get a wheelchair for her if needed and she'd need fairly easy access to a bed if she gets tired.

The point of the trip is really just to spend time together, but if we could do it somewhere interesting, that would make it more special. I'm thinking the budget is about $1000 per person including travel from Utah and most of the party do not have passports.

Any ideas?

January...... St John, US Virgin Islands? No passport necessary.

We use frequent flyer we gather from paying lots of stuff with an Amex card that we pay off each month so in our case, it wouldn't cost $1000 per person because the airline tickets would be "free".

Yellowstone is amazing in the winter, but only the north entrance is open.. the road to Cooke City. Hot springs, snowmobiling, etc. I'll never forget how bright it was one night there... the moon wasn't out but you could almost read a book, the stars were that bright. It would be a lot less expensive than St John, but a tad colder. ;)

Airfare is pretty expensive to St John's from this side of the country, but good idea. Maybe Hawaii instead as that's a lot cheaper to fly to.

I was also thinking about maybe just renting a big house on the West Coast somewhere that we could all drive to in a day. Weather wouldn't be perfect, but at least we could see some pretty scenery and sweatshirt weather beats parka and boots weather.

I know January is a bit limiting, but the sick person I mentioned literally may not be around for a summer trip.

With that many people, you could probably charter something (Plane or Bus), and rent a nice
size house for a few days. San Diego or Oceanside is nice, and offers lots to see and do. Find
a large house boat someplace in the Gulf. Or rent a couple motor homes, and go for a drive.

How about a houseboat on Lake Powell for a few days?
