Hi POTN,

So I'll be upgrading my lighting rig somewhat soon. I'm trying to make it as portable and worry-free as possible. I currently use yongnuo rf-603's to trigger my flash off camera.

Well, I'll be adding a new light (maybe two) to my setup. Most likely a 580EXII or the new 600EX-RT. One of the bigger things I'm keeping mind is the ability to have a power supply attached, so that's one thing that's attracted to me. But also, I'm kind of sick of the triggers. I currently own a 430EXII I'm looking for a way to trigger the 430, and possibly the 580/600 all off camera without the yongnuo triggers, or using the built in flash trigger (because it's obnoxious). Would a radio trigger or pocketwizard or something suffice?

Camera gear: Canon 5D Mark IV | Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L II | Lights: Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS

I guess the first question is why are you sick of the triggers you currently have?

The YN-603's ARE radio triggers so asking "Would a radio trigger or pocketwizard or something suffice?" is like asking if your current triggers will suffice. Yes they will, but you seem to be sick of your current triggers so let us know whey you are and we can lead you to another choice

Why don't you like the triggers? Your post isn't very clear about what you're trying to achieve and why.

Purchase the Yongnuo 622 triggers. Better in every way and you can use them to control your flashes via ettl. Still triggers but much more reliable.

Sync speed.

And how much different are they, flowrider?

Much different. With your 430EX you can use HSS up to 1/4000 as well. With my studio strobes I can do 1/4000 as well. Build quality is much better and the ability to change power settings from the camera is great. There is a huge thread on here about them, have a look.

I'd go with flowrider as well. The 622c's will do 1/250 in normal sync mode and up to 1/8000 in HSS mode.

I love them because I can change all the flash setting remotely right in the camera's flash control menu.

Also they have focus assist beam, ettl functionality, and supersync for studio strobes. They are great triggers, if you're interested in them they THIS LINK (external link) will take you to CliveyBoy's guide to them......it's a big guide because they do A LOT!

You'll have to live with the sync speed if you want any power out of your flash. Some micro 4/3 cameras have a great sync speed. I have to stay below 1/200th with my cameras, even with a sync speed of 1/250th, just because they don't always work perfectly at 250th.
