Caught this picture awhile back and loved the content but wondering what I should have done differently to better. Thanks

Nice. Wall-worthy. The one thing I would do is clone out the bit of contrail in the sky on the left.

I would crop the top off the tree's, make it a pano style shot.

That's very striking. I think I'd maybe have a shot at putting a tiny bit more colour in the sky so it has a slight stronger hint of blue...

The only thing that you might have done differently is use a ND grad to try to get a bit more light in the trees without blowing out the sun - the trees on the left have formed a bit of a black clump and a touch more light in there might just help a bit...

Very nice shot. Great colors and light. I really like the way the light is playing on the fog/mist. Very nicely captured. Composition is good too, except... I would crop from the bottom up and put the horizon/lower tree one at the bottom 3rd point. That pulls the horizon off the center and removes what I would consider unnecessary space.

Thanks for all the help. Here are some edits based on your suggestions. I would be interested in your opinions of what worked, what didn't. Or any other suggestions. I framed the picture for my parents and it looks good on the wall, but I keep thinking there was more I could have done with it.

Cropped Option 1: (Is this what you meant Titus 213?)

Cropped Option 2: (Or this one Titus 213)

Panoramic Crop (Paul-t....Wishing I would have framed it this way, I think?)

Finally, my attempt at adding some color to the sky (GlynT)

The acid test I would happily hang that on my wall ;)

Personal preference the Panorama crop beautiful.

Great capture and a lesson to us all always have our tools to hand.

Thanks for sharing.

I like the panoramic crop the best (and a lot actually!). That's what I would have suggested you do to it so I'm a bit biased.

That's exactly what I meant. And I still like that crop

I really like the idea of the pano crop but the tops of the trees and the sky add a dimension to the image that is appealing.

The pano for me, too. I thought about moving the sun, but as a peaceful (static) image, I think dead center is the place for it.

What a lovely photo !

My take on the original - basically added some contrast, a bit of warmth to the sunlit area, a bit of blue to the sky.

(I think it got posterized somewhere along the way, probably on trying to compress JPG to stay under 150kb. But with an original full size JPG or RAW, you should be able to do anything).
