Trade 17-40L+100L to 24-70 F4L

As my signature lens lineup, I plan to sell the 17-40L and 100L and get the 24-70 F4L. Now the market price for 24-70 F4 is very attractive, white box version is 30% cheaper to original price. My purpose to purchase 24-70 F4 is for travel and hiking, I think it is very versatile and light compared to my 17-40L and 100L combo.

My dilemma is I love my 100L very much and cant easy let go. Anyone have experience with 24-70 F4 macro performance? Any suggestion?

How about 24-105L. You can sell the 17-40 and buy the 24-105 for about 600-700. Then you can keep your 100L. I have 24-105 and its my everyday lens

Max magnification of 24-105 only 0.23x, 24-70 is 0.7 is significant different.

In some case, I only can bring only one lens.
24-105mm is not bad suggestion, but not a one lens solution for me, I shoot a loot close up like bugs.

i think the working distance on the 24-70mm is ridiculously small...so probably not the best for bugs...

This is what I worried, maybe I need to wait until I have enough money or the price decrease further.

You don't want the 24-70 then. Bugs will not stick around and let you get within an inch of them unless they're frozen or dead.

So you want to shoot close ups of bugs , but yet you want to seel your 100L macro?? As mentioned now the 24-70 may not be the right lens then, I second the 24-105 and keep the 100L

Why you do not buy the Tamron 24-70 ? it is cheaper faster and sharper

I would keep 100L.
I believe you want something that you could use as walkaround and as well as macro.
I used to have 24-105 and I liked it.
I guess you could do some Macro work with 24-105, but not as much as 100L.
If can only carry only one lens, that would be 24-105 for now.
Perhaps you could get one of those extension tubes? (Don't know if those will fit 24-105)

I wanted something better than the 24-105 and this is definitely it. Although, I will still use my 100L often, for travel, it is splendid to get to have the close focus that this lens can do. It is not macro, but it can still isolate a single snowflake and some tiny arrowheads with ease.
