Nov 13, 2013 06:58 | #1 It is almost impossible to shoot this lens in the nighttime for me.   I know what caused this problem... I bought this lens really cheap because it had a scratch on the front element. I was fine with that, but I didn't know it turned out in such flare disaster. Lots of (commissioned) pics are worthless now.  In the daytime I have no problems at all with the lens. It *should* reduce or eliminate the flaring. If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

I would guess it is due to that scratch honestly. Fill it in with a sharpie as mentioned above or send to Canon to get the element replaced maybe. They should be able to give you a price over the phone since you know exactly what you want.

They will both do 'some' ghosting, but neither will typically have any problem with veiling flare and both tend to be reasonable for ghosts. Not so much the second one. Bright lights against a dark background is a test for any lens, and you have to make sure it's as clean as possible. Mark.
