LOL and here I am contemplating trading my 70-200markii for a 85L.

As I said in the end I may end up having to have both. Which is crazy really.

Not at all crazy IMO, I intend to buy a 85, but I'm hoping to hang out for the Sigma art version. Similar, I have the 135l and S35, doubled up by zooms. Although I could cope fine with one or the other, it just give you greater options and flexibility.

For almost every prime lens I am looking at purchasing I really wish there was a Sigma Art version!

24mm 1.4, 50mm (1.2 maybe??), 85mm 1,4, 135mm 1.8 IS

Id buy them all if they were priced similar to the 35mm!

On a side note, I ordered a 5D3! Not sure if that would be best used with the 70-200 or the 35 though.

Same, can't wait for new releases in the primes you mentioned.

The 5D3 is better than the 6D in many ways, but as far as taking portraits, I don't fine either a stand out over the other. I usually use the 5D3 as the main and 6D for the alternate lens, which lens I use on which body is more dependant on what I'm shooting, more so than one lens/body combo being better suited to each other.

I do find the 5D3 to be easier and better for using focus point other than the middle, in saying that, the outer points are not as reliable, particularly when wanting a very thin DOF. I would have liked both to have focus points further from the middle than they do, they are just not wide enough in many situations.
If I was planing a lot of head and shoulder shots, I would have the 70-200 on the 5D3, but if I was planing more environmental type shots, with the subject on the 1/3, I would use the S35 on the 5D3. But it really doesn't matter either way, its more what I have become comfortable with. Some times I just choose the 6D as the main just to have a change.

The kit I take for walk about, just incase I find something I want to shoot, is 5D3-S35-70-200II in a Crumpler bag.

If I was shooting an outdoor location portraiture, I would use the 135L and S35, but have the 70-200 in the car. The 135L gets tricky when the light drops a bit, where the IS zoom can take over, the S135OS would kill the 135L in this respect. The other option would be a 85 to five a little more room with shutter speed, and often I have been close to buying one, but I know if I do, the Art will be announced shortly after.

The 6D is arguably better for portraits if you're a primes only shooter. Focus screen Eg-S allows you to see whether the shot is actually in focus at f/1.2. The 5D3 does not accept alternate focusing screens, and thus you can only see whether the shot is actually in focus at about f/2.8.

I feel the same at this point with all the primes I'd want to buy. The 24, 50, 85 and 135. The L's are all really good but really expensive and within two years there will be art versions of each of them. I just hope they come out in the order I want to buy them in but I'm guessing the 85mm will be last.
