My 1Dx will not power up, sometimes.
Let's say it works like normal 7 out of 10 times.
When it won't start the only thing to fix it is to eject the battery and insert again. Tried several different batteries (originals) with the same result.
It looks like it want to do some kind of "reset".
When it starts it works just fine...

Of course it's going in for repair - just curious if anyone else have had the same experience.
...and if so, what was the problem ???

1DX doesn't have a battery door, the battery is one unit with a locking lever on the end.

I could be a few things, sounds like the contacts in the body of the camera is dirty, or it could be the battery it self contact sdirty, or worst thing it could be a cold solder connection in the body of the camera.

Do this check and see if your camera 1dx falls under the recall.... if so that is your problem/

true, but this locking lever activates a power-switch so it's worth checking that it's fully in the locked position...

Well, parts of this sounds similar to a problem I was having (that I'm hoping is fixed now). My 1dx was working perfectly when I sent it to Canon for the mirror lubrication recall back in July. When I got it back, it worked fine for a couple of weeks, and then it died about 10 shots into a paid shoot. I didn't have time to mess with it and finished the shoot with a backup camera. When I removed and replaced the battery, it came back to life. It behaved this way for a couple of weeks until removing and replacing the battery no longer brought the camera back to life. It was completely dead and went back to Canon. They replaced some part and sent it back. I had the same experience as above. It worked fine for a little while, then started with the intermittent failures, and then died completely. I even bought a second battery to be sure that wasn't the problem. Back to Canon again, and to their credit, they wanted to keep it a little longer this time so it wouldn't come back again once they fixed it. I've had it back now for a few weeks, and so far, so good...but I still bring a backup camera with me everywhere because I don't trust it yet. They replaced two different parts the last time, but the part name and numbers meant nothing to me.

^^ Well that sounds just like my scenario!!!
I had it in for the fix and it was fine for a while then this behavior started to appear... sounds very similar.
Could you please let me know name/numbers of the two parts you had repaired?

Regarding the other comments. I have switched to other batteries (and new ones as well) without any difference.

I ALWAYS bring a backup, but nothing is more irritating than when things fails during a gig.

Every day without a problem, is one day closer to the disaster ;)

Same thing happened to me. The last few weeks my camera turns off during use (dead as a door nail). I put the battery in and out a few times and it works again. Until yesterday! Now it won't turn on at all. Exactly the same as this video, except now it won't turn on at all. http://vimeo.com/76656998 (external link)

Did you find out the name/numbers of the two parts sdipirro had repaired to fix the problem?

Regards.
Tanya.

Nop, I didn't get any info back from sdipirro.
Mine has been at the repair shop for 2 weeks now (I have been travelling so haven't missed it).
I told them to keep it until they find what's wrong and then fix it.
I talked to the tech the other week and he couldn't find anything in any logs - so it seems to be something early in the power circuits (or software).
I'm about to give him a call tomorrow again and check the status.

I'd like my camera back  ...sure, I can get a loaner until it is sorted but I would rather have my own!

That's the strange part. Mine didn't give any errors to log either. It just went dead while I was using it. Mid shot actually! Pulling the battery in and out a few times did work for a while, but not any more :/

Canon 1DX is a beautiful camera ... when it's working!

Anyway, thanks for answering back Candersson. Keep me informed in what your repair shop finds out, it will be interesting.

Talked to the service tech today and found out what has been done.
He told me that he had been in contact with Canon and got the suggestion to reload the camera settings.
I'm not talking about the software (that we users upgrade manually) but the internal settings of the 1DX.
These are stored in a separate memory which holds camera basic settings like factory adjustments and adjustments to lenses (made by the Canon service) etc. etc.
These settings are only accessed/managed through a special software that is being used by the Canon service.
So basically he did a backup of the settings in my body, erased the memory and reloaded the settings.
This was done beginning of last week and he has been testing the camera several times each day since then without being able to recreate the problem.

If this is the final solution I don't know. It sure is an improvement though :)
I am going to collect the body tomorrow and then continue to shot and be very observant for any strange behavior...

If you find your camera still has the problem in future, the next step may be to have them check the 'PF' board. This was the solution for David Ferrone on this Vimeo video https://vimeo.com/76656998 (external link)

Thanks for your information as well. I'll make sure I print it out and send it in when I get mine fixed. Let me know how it goes. It will be interesting to see if that fixes your problem in the long term.

Have a great day!

Count me in too. First happened in July during my daughters grad party. I guess high temps/humidity and going into and out of the air conditioned house did it in. Soon figured out I needed to take the battery out and reinsert it back in the camera to get going again. Had to do that every half hour or so.

Luckily, I sent it in for repair one week before my warranty was up. Not so lucky for me was that it took four trips to Canon Factory Service before they finally fixed it (I hope).

The last service was a circuit board replacement- PCB ASS'Y, FP
