Exactly what I thought. They could have pulled the vehicle between the bull and the photographer. That could have ended on an unhappy note.

They put the elk down unfortunately :( apparently he had done similar behaviors before. Probably had been fed and was frustrated by a lack of food from the photographer.

Honestly, I wouldnt have interevened either- if someone had pulled up to soon (before the guy stood up) the elk could have escalated more (or just been frightened) and the guy wouldn't have been able to do much sitting down. After he got up and was more able to defend himself is when I would have intervened but that's also when the park ranger had come up.

Pretty scary stuff there. The guy was taking some nice head butts, and could have easily been skewered by an antler. But you really have to appreciate that despite the danger he still clicked off some shots, and was still chimping. Classic.
