Why 50D? The 40D would be great for sports also, despite its age, IMHO.

My 5D Mark 3 sees the world while the Mark 2 is sitting at home ready for studio sessions. I've shot soccer on the Mark 2 before getting the 3. Not the best choice, but that's what I had to use..
