I love shooting mountain biking but I really want to get into wide angle shots, my tokina 11-16 is good but the AF is no where near what i want, I shoot on a 7D, what wide angle lenses have fast AF motors? thanks

for ef-s glass, 10-22 would probably be your best bet.
I'd probably go 16-35L if that would be wide enough or you need it for full frame as well.

do you really need the best AF? i mean the DOF would be so large, that you'd think even if the tokina were to miss focus, the rider would still be in focus most of the time...

Pre-focus where you anticipate the action to be and shoot at f/5.6-f/8. With WA/UWA your subject should be in focus provided your shutter speed is fast enough and you aren't breathing too hard from trying to beat the bikers to the location.

I use a manual focus 20mm lens for the majority of my MTB shots. Occasionally, the 17-40. With either one I'll pre-focus on the trail or a tree about where I want to frame the shot and it's all good.

Do you want to do it with wide aperture?
Or are you ok doing it at apertures of 3.5 and narrower?

What focal length do you consider to be your maximum for wide angle on a crop for your purposes?

Very best,

Very best,

I prefer 2.8 but I'd be happy to shoot at whatever fstop or aperture if it means a more focused shot, depending on the location I shoot at 11 or 16
