I got so 'lost' with the Gitzo model numbers and letters that I got myself a Manfrotto 055CXPRO4! :-)

I use my 5D3 with a 16-35L II for landscapes, a 70-300L for wildlife and a 100L for macro. My macro setup includes a flash bracket and 430EX or 600EX-RT flash. The tripod is solid even with the center column extended.

QUOTED IMAGE

Liking the look of that setup! Tell me, what's the flash mount you're using & is that the RRS L bracket?

Why Gitzo rather than some of the alternatives like Feisol?

I just like the quality, design & have a Gitzo monopod that I love, so would rather stick with the brand I know...

Yes I would also like to know what flash mount. Perhaps a picture from the side, so we can see how it attaches to camera

Thanks

It is an issue as their naming convention is quite byzantine. The other side of it is that they make a tripod somewhere in their range that will fit the population 5th - 95th percentile for height & load capacity. The trick is to find that tripod.

Thanks. Yes. That's an RRS l-plate for the grip. I've since sold the grip and bought the RRS l-plate for the 5D3 without grip. The arm is a short Novoflex arm with a Kirk bracket to attach to the RRS l-plate.

Hey folks,

The reason I'm considering the 2580tqr4 is that I assume, perhaps incorrectly, that it's a 2542t tripod. It includes a gitzo head that I'll not use, but the kicker is that the package comes in at $100 less than the 2542t...I know I'll need to buy an adapter disk, but I'll still be ahead of the game!

The kit I'll be using would be: 5D3, 85L, 70-200L 2.8

I'm not really interested in any other brands, just Gitzo.

Thanks ;)

As you know, The 2580TQR is a kit with the tripod & head together. Gitzo released the 2542T as the tripod only in response to everyone not wanting the Gitzo head, so your assumption is correct.
