I actually bought the new ones for my 17-55 and the 70-300L after getting one on the 18-55 STM...I had some cheapo internet ones on before but they didn't have any kind of ridge on the inner pinch part so you could never keep a good grip on them that way. New Canon much nicer. And official!

My 40 pancake and 85 1.8 both came with the old style red and white boxes (and black end on the 85 1.8 box). The 85 did come with the new center pinch lens cap though.

I had to go grab the boxes for my two new lens purchases from last month to double check although I was pretty certain neither of mine had new designs. I honestly think I prefer the old design more than this new one but I'll have to see it in person.

The market for white boxes will tank soon. Sell now!

Just recieved a 50mm f/1.8 brand new from Amazon, and it came in one of the snazzy looking silver and black boxes. (Thankfully it also came with the new centre-pinch cap rather than the awful old version you see most 50mm's with!) Before I read this I was worried it was a grey import or something, but it does look to be just Canon redesigning/re-branding slightly.

I actually quite like the look of these, although I do only have one red, white and black box to compare it too!

So now those with the "old" white boxes are going to have to sell their lenses for 25% under the going rate for the "new" silver box versions. ;)

Until they hit the point where they are considered "vintage"...then they'll make a killing with vintage boxes...

Retro seems to be in these days. Canon has used silver boxes for their EF lenses before. I still have some silver boxes that date back to the early 1990's.

That's what I'm talking about. Those new caps are so much nicer than even the Sigma and Tamron ones.

new thread idea: What company has better performing lens caps?

I did notice in my new 70-200 II the packaging inside was slightly different. Had a different foam piece that goes around the hood in the baggy it ships in. Usually it was just the foam O-ring up top (by the mount I believe). May be starting to slowly roll out the packaging.
