I have a 24-105 that was made in 2007 that is now giving "communication errors" This is my main lens, it is used a lot!
Only estimates I have are a few that are posted on line $200-$400 US. It would appear to me that this would be the best way to go in lieu of purchasing a new lens.
Unless, there is a good reason to purchase a new lens due to the age of this one???
Any advise? Thank you.

Unfortunately it is a relatively common problem that Canon doesn't seem to admit with the ribbon cable inside the lens. Do a search on here and you will find more about it, but here is one link.

Unfortunately it seems to be a take your risk lens, like the AF mechanism in the Canon 50mm f/1.4.

My lens is newer, so I hope I don't see the problem ever, or for a long time. Though I bought the lens knowing there is that potential issue - I wanted the range (and IS).

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim
