Hey guys, thinking of making the switch back to canon from fuji.I have a budget around 1000 and I'm trying to decide what I should buy.

I used to have a t2i with a 35 f/2. Mainly just used that to learn photography. Saw fuji release the X-E1 and had to have it. Mainly due to being so aesthetically pleasing. But its slowly wearing off and decided to take my photography and fashion blogging more seriously.
I'll mainly shoot outfits, street, and portrait.

I was thinking of picking up a 60d with a 24-105 f/4L and it comes to 1200 with the canon loyalty program. My roommate also has a sigma 35 1.4, so if I needed it, I could borrow that.
My other option would be to get a 70d on sale, like the ones with the printer rebate, and slowly sell everything off and use the 70d with a 18-135 stm. But I really don't use video though.

I think the 60D is at an insanely low price right now. You can probably pair it with the 18-135 STM which is a very good IQ lens for under a thousand and pick up a nifty as well.

The 60D can do very well in low light something you will probably need...

Here is how ISO 12800 cleans out

and here is a real life example, horrible low CFL lighting, the camera refused to focus 75% of the time...

The 70D has somewhat cleaner files at 12800 and a better jpeg engine if you do in-camera NR, but to get to these levels, you have to do it in the RAW... by hand...

That's about the best capability you can buy for $1100. For portraiture you'll need to learn to do windowlight/doorway/available light, but that's a beautiful thing.

The 60D is a good body but the 24-105L, while a good lens, is not that great of a lens on a crop body (owned it, was not impressed). You can get a sigma or tamron 17-50 f2.8 for less and it will produce as good if not better images (in my opinion).

The 70D is a little better then the 60D, espically if you want video AF, but with the price difference between the two right now the 60D is the better buy as the 70D doesn't add enough to really make it that much better.

The 60D with an 18-135 STM lens might be another option. The 18-135 STM is a very good lens but a bit slow on the aperture side.

LostArk's suggestion is one to consider as well. The 5D might be an old body but you can get it fairly cheap and it still produces amazing images!

Off topic, but what software and settings did you use to clean up the first image?

like others have said the 60D deals are insane ($400 - $550 (refurb) and if you have access to the Sigma 35 1.4 then you're set

Darktable. It is the Linux equivalent to LR.

The settings don't mean much because it is a different program. The main improvement is that I start with the input profile being sRGB rather than colorimetric.

I have a workflow in GIMP starting with the plugin Dcraw2 (both free and available for Windows as well). There, I use no input profile (that's the second photo IIR)

Dropping the colorimetric profile for low light/high ISO does wonders in reducing noise without loosing any detail. Then I normally have very little smoothing with NR tools.

My 50d +24-105 was an amazing combo.

I'm sure others will disagree, but unless you're going to switch to full frame or you plan on shooting sports/fast action, I'd stick with the Fuji. The XE1 has a very good sensor and their lens selection is also very good. What lens/lenses do you have for your XE1 already btw?

If the EOS M hadn't been so darn cheap I would've gotten an XE1 myself as a backup/daily use camera.

I thought about the 5d classic but I just feel like it won't fit the bill. I'm sure it takes amazing pictures just that the screen is kind of bad.

Yea the 60D is super cheap and would probably save up for a full frame. Probably the 6d if anything.

I love the xe1 but I just want that longer focal length and fuji just doesn't have it. I also realized fuji's don't hold value compared to canon and nikon. So I'm afraid to build a system with it. I only have the kit lens 18-55

Hmm, I can see your argument about longer FL's, but idk about the resale value. I wish I could find a good deal on a used XE-1, I've been looking...
