Floating Guitar with 10 Stop ND Filter, (3)...

Hi guys,

I went out this morning for only the second time the 10 stopper, hoping to get some decent skies, but sadly it was just overcast and not much wind to move them along!

I'm lucky to have this reservoir on my doorstep, but the level is a bit low so there arn't many things to add interest in a long exposure, water blur shot - so I had to improvise - the thought of using a guitar as a prop came to me last night as I was stuggling to sleep...

Pretty cool shot. I like the blue one. It has just the right amount of surreality for my eye. I'm a little bothered by the horizon bisecting the neck. But there's no getting around it.

Please tell me that you didn't actually put a musical instrument in the water. It's one of my things. I've never bought an album from a group that was known to destroy their instruments. There's always some poor kid somewhere who would sell his/her soul for that instrument.

Thanks Joe! Trust me, it was sat well out of the water on a stand that I removed using the spot tool in LR! It did get splashed by my Springer Spaniel flying past a couple of times, but I dried it off well, no guitars were harmed in the making of this shot!

I could try shooting down from higher and try and keep all the neck below the horizon, there are steps up behind where I shot from - can't quite picture the result in my head, but easy enough to try - as long as I ignore the strange looks I was getting from all the locals walking thier dogs!

brilliant idea, well executed..
yes, the horizon is a bit off-putting but I think it's only a real problem in the B&W version, the color contrast in the other versions make it much less of an issue...

I have to agree with the crowd. The blue is the strongest. I do like the last one too, but there is something interesting about the square crop.

Great idea! I like the blue one the most - the square crop makes it look like an album cover, which is what I initially assumed it was meant to be. The only crit I really have is that it may be worth Photoshopping out the bushes and stuff on the horizon near the guitar's neck.

I really like your idea and the way you edited just using Lightroom. The blue one is really good and the BW as well the only thing I would suggest is perhaps softening the background a bit more and perhaps lowering the exposure just a bit using the radial filter to make the guitar the focal point. (just my opinion) otherwise they all cd covers for sure!
