Hello fellow G6 owners,
I bought my G6 when they first came out in 2004.
One noticeable issue is my rubber hand grip that's becoming loose, but I can remove it altogether.

Another issue was the LCD swivel screen is very loose.

Another issue that I noticed today was that the ZOOM knob appears to be stuck in the middle, and I have to push extremely hard both ways to use the zoom knob.

Can anyone tell me if applying a drop of 3 in 1 oil, or something else, would help loosen this knob again?

I bought this Canon G6 in 2004.
it has been a good camera. A few issues i have is that the rubber habd grip is coming off, the LCD swivel screen is loose, even thoiugh the two screws are still very tight, and FINALLY, just yeaterday i was taking photos of my neice at her soccer agme and noticed when trying to use the tele zoom lens, it's stuck in the middle position, and i have to FORCE it to macro or tele.

I called a local canon repair, and he told me there is nothing i can do to fix it. i then called Canon in Irvine Ca., and they told me the same thing, it's no longer useful...WHAT? I paid something like $700.00, with a five year extended warranty, but they told me it can not be fixed.

I googled this topic and found someone saying to get a can of W-D40, spray into a small bowl, then take an eye dropper and carefully put a drop around the knob. Canon told me the camera is useless.

I also have a Canon Program AE-1 with lots of FD lenses, No one really does film processing around these parts, it's all digital, so I'm hoping maybe to sell this AE1 program for a decent price, with all my FD lenses. Canon no longer makes an adapter for the FD lenses to the EOS cameras.

Has anyone with a G6 experience any of my issues?

So next dilemma for me is to figure out if I want to stay with the G series, or get either a T3, or T3i. I also like to take videos, people have told me instead of buying a separate video camcorder, just get either the T3,or T3i. Really? Am I going to be happy?

Thank you!

"Can not be fixed" and not economical to repair are two different issues. It is entirely possible, if parts exist, that the camera can be fixed, but the labor cost involved in disassembly, parts replacement, reassembly probably far exceeds the value of the camera. I see you likely live in the States so if you dearly love the G6 I would suggest you check eBay for something, likely less than $50 I would guess.

Whether you chose to stay with the G series or go to the DSLR you might also want to check the Canon Loyalty Program. Your G6 can be the "trade" for a Canon refurbished camera at a significant savings. You can get full details on the program at https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=948785. You will find that virtually everyone speaks very highly of the Canon refurb and Canon Loyalty Program.
