I went for a long hike today hoping to see a mountain lion but came up empty on that. Luckily I did get these shots.

Too bad you didn't see the mountain lion, as you were on the top of your game Jeremy....those are all super clear, well executed shots. The cardinal stands out to me with the green adding a lot to the image.

These are much safer to photograph than a mountain lion, but what a thrill that would have been to see from a safe distance. Great set as always!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I was disappointed not seeing the big cat but I was pleased to see the birds.

Rog, I have lots of threads in the wildlife section. You should check them out

Great job on these!
Just out of curiosity, what sharpening method do you apply?

Trade ssecrets
If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

Lol here is what I do.
I use light room 4
For sharpening I drag the top slider to between 45-55.
I put the 2nd slider to 1.2
The detail slider is 3rd and I leave it around 25
The 4th slider is the key. It is masking. It tells where to apply sharpening
and where not to.
I hold the option or command button and click the slider. The photo turns white
I drag it to the right and the photo gradually turns black with white areas.
The black is where you will not apply sharpening. The white is where you will.
I make sure the bird is mostly white and the background is very black.

Play with it and you'll see.

Thanks for the compliment.

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Is there a way to only sharpen in the lightness channel? Or is that what the 4th slider is telling you?
( in photoshop it lab colour and then select only lightness channel, I don't know if you're familiar with ps).

best
Thomas
