They weren't joking about the sharpness.

One more lens I will not hurry to get. Excellent but so quick at burning through my money supply line. :p

I wouldn't expect (or tolerate) anything less for a lens of this caliber and price point. Superb resolution numbers.

I'd buy one, but let's face it, It's a sick lens, but with only manual lens and as such, I'd be unable to catch any decent shots a fast moving subject like a toddler with it.

Yes, this is sarcasm, and yes it's a poke at people in the body subforums

If only they could apply their amazing lens technology into one with AF (a.k.a. useful for most) lol

Without paying lots of money to Canon, they would still have a hard time to match the AF of a Canon lens. And the cost to get their lens into the lens database in the camera would probably be pretty stiff.

I don't think they would want to release a lens with just vote "decent" for AF, contrasting to the "excellent" and "world-class" when describing all other aspects of the lens.

It is kind of a waste on Canon body until Canon releases its high MP body.

This beauty needs to be paired with the A7R or D800E to make it worthwhile.

I keep reading about adding AF to Zeiss lenses. But the focus ring goes 248 degrees. Can AF turn that far quickly?

Won't matter how sharp this lens is if it can't focus fast enough.

...this means it's up to the damn user to nail focus. This won't be a sports lens lol

Nice lens! I look forward to using it on a future Canon high MP camera body.

Why does the subject of AF come up in every thread about Canon-mount Zeiss lenses? It's bewildering as to why some just can't deal with the notion of MF lenses, or the immutable reality that Zeiss doesn't do AF for their Canon and Nikon-mount lenses. They don't do it now and probably never will.

Back on topic, the Otus 55mm is a truly awesome optic...I'm still debating about ordering one. The wide-open performance is astonishing. :)
