Is my 1D classic finally dying? Wont hold charge and get an error after every shot

I bought my 1D classic from Adorama in 2010 and it arrived with the original battery and a charger from Adorama. As of now, the charger will kind of charge the battery and then when I stick that battery into the camera and try to get a few shots the shutter will fire half way before giving me an error message. It'll lock me out, then shut down or stay on (depending on charge) and continue to give an error message every time I try and take a photo. This happens regardless of the drive setting or iso or aperture.

I say that my charger works halfway because lately my batteries (which usually take two hours to charge) will indicate that they charge fully in like 15 minutes but when I stick them into the camera they'll last a few minutes before draining. Then I'll stick em in the charger again and they usually fully charge.

The last time I charged my batteres completely was quite a while ago, like a few months, so is there a problem with my batteries, my charger or is the shutter done with the 1D?

Or should I just upgrade?

Just turn on the camera and keep viewing photos on the display.

If you quickly run out of power, then get a new battery.

If the battery seems to hold out a long time - and you then also get a longer charge time than 15 minutes, then it is more likely that the camera shuts down because it is failing to perform.

Just note that when you take a photo, the camera will require a very high current peak from the battery, so a bad battery can give a lockup directly on first shutter actuation.

No error message, I only get an "ERR" message on the screen where you see your AF/Fstop/SS settings.

I have two lenmar batteries that have always been reliable, one is only a year and a half old yet the same thing happens.

Still try to drain a battery using the display - a charger that stops too early gives similar results as a battery that doesn't hold any charge.

If the camera shuts off early when viewing photos, and the camera doesn't heat up, then the camera doesn't get the required power. If the camera gets really hot, then there is most probably a problem with the camera. If the camera can run for a long time just showing photos, but shuts off directly when taking a photo then it's probably not a battery/charger issue - especially if the same happens with two batteries.

We can make guesses all day long but the only way to be sure is to send the camera and batteries to Canon.

Yep, that's exactly what's going on. I thought of buying the original charger but it still costs a bit too much

Don't send in the Lenmar batteries to Canon. They'll probably oh! theres the problem, using unchipped batteries.

But if they are the problem, then better to know that than not.

Forgot to say I also had the AC adapter with the camera, so I swapped that in for a battery and tried some test shots with it. Still got the err message until the image buffered and a few seconds after. So its the shutter?

I'm also wondering what I ought to upgrade to now :/
